Medical Molecular Biology Division

1. Introduction

The Medical Molecular Biology Division mainly takes charge of the development and application of relevant experimental techniques on the molecular biological technical platform of our center; it is one of the first Medical Key Laboratories of Shenzhen City, with the qualifications of recruiting graduate students independently, as well as recruiting doctoral students with cooperation and being a mobile post-doctoral station. It has undertaken a number of Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen Science and Technology program priorities and general project funding. The laboratory has received the recognition of National Transgenic Laboratory and the reassessments of Guangdong Province measurement certification, with more than 34 programs being accredited and certified. It has developed a genetically modified organisms food security requirements, evaluating and test methods, and genetically modified food safety requirements, separately, all of which are according to the local standards Shenzhen City and Guangdong Province.

Laboratory medicine of molecular biomedicine provides molecular biological research for the center. The existing staffs of the center are all bachelor degree or above, including 2 people with doctor's degree and 4 master's degree; three with senior titles, 4 intermediate titles and 1 junior titles. Department equipment fixed assets worth more than 20 million, including transmission electron microscopy, flow cytometer sorter, capillary electrophoresis apparatus, micro operating system and other large equipment; they provide equipment and technical support for the research works in our center.

2. Main Responsibilities

(1)     The development and application of large-scale equipment on the molecular biological technical platform and its relevant experimental techniques in our center.

(2)     Qualitative and quantitative analysis and evaluation of ingredients in genetically modified food.

(3)     Safety test and evaluation of genetically modified food.

(4)     To carry out research of genetically modified food safety techniques

(5)     Genetically modified foods’ market inspection and risk assessment.
