  Deng Pingjian was born in April 1956. In 1982 he graduated from Sun Yat-sen University and gained his Master degree of Science major in instrumental analysis. Ever since then he has participated in evaluation and inspection of food safety and hygiene. He was deputy-director of institute for food hygiene supervision and inspection during 1987-1995 and director of executive office during 1996-1999 in Guangdong Hygiene and Anti-epidemic Station. He achieved his professional title as senior technologist in 1996 and the award of State Council Expert for Special Allowance in 1997. He was transferred as technical talents to Shenzhen Hygiene and Anti-epidemic Station and appointed as director of clinic microbiology division in 1999 and in-charge started the research group of genetically modified food safety inspection and assessment in 2000. In 2009 he obtained the title of Shenzhen City Local Talents. Currently he is the director of medical molecular biology division and research lab for genetically modified food safety inspection and assessment in Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and a master supervisor. Academically he is vice chairman in the following organizations, National Physical and Chemical Inspection for Food Hygiene Special Interest Committee, Preventive Medicine Association of Guangdong Province, Sanitary Inspection Association of Guangdong Province, and Experimental Medicine Special Interest Committee of Shenzhen Medicine Association. He is invited experts for scientific journals listed below, Food and Chemical Toxicology, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Analytical Biochemistry, Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine, Journal of Hygiene Research, Chinese Journal of Food Hygiene, and Chinese Journal of Health Laboratory Technology. He has taken charge of 5 Scientific and Technological Projects of Guangdong Province, and participated in 1 National 973 High-tech Project. He has published over 60 research articles, 4 of which are in SCI, and 5 related scholarly books. He has acquired 3 Third-class Award of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Advances, 2 Second-class Award of Science and Technology Advances in Medicine, Drug and Health of Guangdong Province, and 2 Shenzhen Technology Innovation Awards. He has won 1 national invention patent and developed 6 Shenzhen local standards for genetically modified food safety assessment and inspection methods.
